RFI, Area Sud

An infrastructure and landscape design project that seeks the interpenetration between respect for the context and technological innovation. The recent planning of a regional service on the Milanese railway ring road, which multiplies the train passages, makes it necessary to introduce noise barriers. The project, presented in the competition which required a typological proposal and the study of solutions in certain typical areas, intends to go beyond the acoustic mitigation functions and dialogue with the context. The barrier is made up of a concrete base and steel support poles that hold up two “skins”: an external one made of extruded terracotta elements that contain absorbent mineral wool; an internal glass window that manifests itself where it is necessary to allow the traveler to orient himself and let the light pass. The terracotta elements, chosen because at the same time the material of the Milanese construction tradition and of contemporaneity, are chosen in different colors that can be grouped in a continuous sequence, to create a chromatic vibration that adds a further element of visual variety to the alternation of brick surfaces and glass
