Hospital and University campus: “Città della Salute”
To give the Hospital an urban value as a place open to the city, devoid of its exclusive, impermeable and specialized character and closely integrated with the surrounding landscape is the first element to be managed to obtain the environmental excellence that, rightly, the DPP places among the general design criteria.
This objective involves two different but interrelated levels: one urbanistic / environmental and the other architectural.
Regarding the urban aspects – location, location, environmental value, representativeness, accessibility, relations with the urban surroundings – the Hospital is conceived as a structure open to the territory, able to enhance the surroundings as a primary element in the design of the city and its areas, even peripheral.
In this sense, a primary role is played by green areas, equipped and not, internal and external, conceived as a resting and leisure area for patients but also as a place open to the city and freed from the contradiction of the disease. In the project solution, the front towards Piazza d’Armi opens up to the city, through a slight rotation of the hospital and University buildings and the amplification of the receptivity and services offered in the internal hospital road. In this space there are also all the connections and points of modal interchange: here come the taxis and public transport, from here the cycle paths run off, here – through ramps – the city penetrates the hospital compendium, here are the vertical connections that from the underground parking lots lead directly to the entrance halls.
Regarding the architectural aspects – scale, dimensions, colors and materials – the Hospital is integrated into the urban fabric with a non-dissonant building typology for height, shape and representativeness from those around, thanks to the formal research that must be developed during the course of the design phases.
The design solution at the basis of the Design Competition for which our Design Group was awarded the contract must be considered as a design invariant with regard to the location, the volumes and the type chosen. The Master Plan at the base of the Document
