Urban Complex

A park that fills gaps and voids and becomes the backbone of the urban plan, connecting different areas and functions: the nineteenth-century center, the existing railway and the new building. With this interpretation, the international competition announced by the public administration of Cesena was won, surpassing 60 other participants. The project intends to enhance and resume the sign that strongly connotes the part of the urban fabric involved in the competition: the secant underpass inaugurated in 2008, which has freed up a large area destined for a public park. The park, which is made to percolate across the railway line and flow into the cycle-pedestrian underpasses as far as the Via Emilia, takes on a strategic value both as a space for recreational, cultural and sporting activities, and as a mediation space between city and nature, between future, recent and past fabrics. The new part of the city, designed as a “self-sufficient” ecological system, is characterized by a dense but low building consisting of villas and apartments on patios and garden roofs and an urban grid based on the warping of the centuriatio, still visible to the north east of the city.
