Benedetto Camerana Archive – The metamorphosis of floor 13 in Torre Littoria, Torino

We introduce this new section remembering the project “Apartment-studio in Via Viotti 1“. Built in 2003, exactly 20 years ago, the arch. Camerana inaugurated its new space on floor 13 of the Torre Littoria of Reale Mutua in Piazza Castello in Turin. The rooms were designed to have a double function, the architect’s personal office and home. The wonderful 360-degree view of the Alps that embraces the city is a important point, with the interior surfaces made of reflective materials that generated a play of reflections where the surrounding landscape is projected directly into the interior. The domes of the Sindone and the church of San Lorenzo by Guarini, the Basilica of Superga, the Mole Antonelliana and the Monte dei Cappuccini become real furnishing elements in an urban kaleidoscope.

The design and materials of the house express the emotion experienced by architect Cameranaduring the approach to the airport of New York during the first plane trip and astonishment at the view of the TWA terminal architecture and the design of Jumbo upper deck.

In 2011 the project was also published on International Herald Tribune – New York Times, as well many issues in major architecture and design magazines.

This architectural work now lost is also proposed for the legacy left as a pilot project of the apartments built by Benedetto Camerana Studio for Reale Mutua in 2020. The 19 luxury apartments provided for project awarded in tender in 2017, are the re-edition of floor 13, in a radical, conceptual and less personalized, to meet the thought of future tenants in a deliberately prestigious real estate offer. Where there was navy blue, today there is glass, the colors of the walls become neutral, perfect frames for large windows overlooking the city from four sides.
