Basilica di Superga – Ticket office

Designed and built as an early implementation of the permanent interventions set out in the Masterplan for the reactivation of the Basilica of Superga—developed by Benedetto Camerana Studio—the temporary ticket office is inserted into the north wing as a device that is both operational and narrative. It acts as an intermediate threshold, anticipating the future geography of services and access points across the complex.
Beyond fulfilling a practical function made necessary by the increase in visitors the site has seen in recent years, the module operates as a placemaking gesture: it establishes the courtyard and the north wing as the new main entrance to the cultural complex, concentrating welcome and orientation here and foreshadowing the definitive transformation of the adjacent spaces.

The project takes the form of an essential volume, built around a carefully designed void and organized with large glazed surfaces, shaped frames, and slender horizontal planes that define a porous interior—explicitly open to a broad and diverse audience, in line with the site’s new management.

At the same time, the dematerialization of the object serves to underscore its impermanence: an architecture “on tiptoe” that approaches the Juvarrian context without competing with it, where the design becomes a stylized icon, destined to dissolve and return the spaces to their original configuration—enriched, however, by an experience of use that remains.
In keeping with this approach, the structure is composed entirely of standard elements assembled dry, conceived to be dismantled and reused at the end of the artifact’s life cycle: a reversible construction in which temporariness becomes both a design criterion and a material responsibility.
